Vera Takes The Cake Live
by Sandra T. Molina

  Vera Takes The Cake

'Vera' Invades The Mint - West Hollywood, CA.

Whipping into West Hollywood's The Mint like the proverbial Texas tornado, Vera Takes The Cake played to an extremely enthusiastic crowd. From the opening chord to the last, they had the Monday night crowd in its musical grip.

The band, which hails from Austin, Texas, played with abandon and seemed quite surprised and pleased about the warm welcome from a Hollywood crowd that prides itself on its jaded reputation. Fronted by singer/guitarists Sarah Dashew and Ginger Leigh, the band worked their blend of rock, with its folk and jazz inflections, perfectly. The vocals were strong as Dashew and Leigh traded off on lead vocals and harmonized as well.

The band's sense of fun was heightened by its easy camaraderie and musical cohesiveness. The band proved that by putting on a great show, both they and the audience could have its 'cake' and eat it too.
